Juventus 1-1 Fiorentina

Juventus' winless streak extended to five games as bitter rivals Fiorentina held them to a draw in Turin.

The result meant the teams remained locked together on 15 points, but the visitors would be the happier with this outcome as they look to secure Champions League qualification again for next season.

Juan Manuel Vargas gave La Viola an early lead but Amauri equalised for Juventus before the 20-minute mark in an evenly-contested game.

Ciro Ferrara's side l! ost 2-0 to Palermo before the international break and they made a miserable start as the Serie A campaign resumed as Peruvian wing-back Vargas put Fiorentina in front in the fifth minute.

Montenegro forward Stevan Jovetic provided an excellent assist and Vargas fired low into the left corner of Gianluigi Buffon's goal.

Jovetic missed a chance to double the Tuscan side's lead five minutes later when he steered a left-foot shot wide from 10 yards after Cristiano Zanetti had played him in.

Vincenzo Iaquinta had the first chance for Juventus after a quarter of an hour when he turned and drilled in a shot which Viola goalkeeper Sebastien Frey fielded low to his right and three minutes later sent an effort wide from a Fabio Grosso cross.

The equaliser came in the 19th minute, Iaquinta turning provider from the left to set Brazil-born striker Amauri up for a simple tap-in.

Iaquinta headed another good Grosso cross wide in the 25th minute but ther! e was a scare for Juve seven minutes later as an own goal was ! ruled ou t for a foul by Dario Dainelli.

Buffon then parried a Jovetic shot following a Fiorentina counter-attack before Christian Poulsen's acrobatic effort from outside the box lacked the power to truly worry Frey.

Iaquinta was then controversially ruled offside to deny him in a one-on-one with Frey, and Italy goalkeeper Buffon pulled off a tremendous save in first-half stoppage time to keep out a left-foot shot from Vargas.

Juventus created the first second-half opening as Amauri laid on a chance for Mohamed Sissoko to shoot first time but Frey blocked it with his right foot.

The former Liverpool midfielder headed wide a minute later from Zdenek Grygera's cross from the left.

Buffon was called on again just before the hour mark to deny Mario Alberto Santana's left-foot strike before French stopper Frey twice kept out Amauri headers in quick succession.

Amauri fired a right-foot shot wide from 30 yards and Buffon then comfortably dealt with! a weak shot from former Juve team-mate Adrian Mutu.

The last chance for a winner fell to in-form Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino with nine minutes to go, but after four goals in two games for Italy during the international break he spurned the chance to be the hero for his club.
